Tamiya RSO/01 German Tractor 1/35 – 35394

Product Description

Skill Level: Intermediate
Best For: Modelers who want a distinctive WWII German tracked tractor for an armor collection, an artillery or supply column, or a winter Eastern Front diorama.

The Tamiya RSO/01 German Tractor (35394) faithfully recreates the RSO/01 in 1/35 scale. It is part of Tamiya's Military Miniature Series (No. 394) and was developed with all-new tooling after extensive research of the full-size vehicle. The finished model measures 126mm long and 64mm wide.

During WWII, the RSO was developed as a German tractor to deal with conditions such as deep snowfall. A 70 hp 3,517cc V8 gasoline engine and 4-speed transmission were mounted in the front and powered the rear differential and sprockets via a propeller shaft. The first production model, the RSO/01, had a rounded cabin of pressed steel sheet, and 60cm-wide snow tracks could be fitted to get over bad roads. Production started in October 1942, and from the following spring the cabin floor was raised by around 30mm to keep it clear of the snow tracks. The RSO served as an artillery tractor and for transporting goods.

This kit captures the post-spring 1943 version, with the distinctive rounded cabin, a choice of cargo bed with or without canvas cover, and detailed engine, drive shaft and differential gears. Decals cover the 1st Skijäger Division on the Eastern Front, 1944 and an unknown unit in France, 1944.

Beginner-Friendly Note: Apply the included masking stickers to the clear window parts before painting. Paint the engine and drivetrain before closing up the cab and bed, and decide early whether you will build the canvas cover or the open frame.
