Build the tank that marked the beginning of Germany's armored forces with the Tamiya 1/35 Panzerkampfwagen I Sd.Kfz. 101 Plastic Model Kit. Although lightly armed with twin 7.92mm machine guns, the Panzer I played a crucial role in developing German armored warfare doctrine and served extensively during the Spanish Civil War and the early campaigns of World War II, including Poland, France, and North Africa.

Tamiya's 1/35 scale kit accurately captures the compact design of the Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf. A, featuring finely molded details, a realistic suspension, detailed road wheels, and an accurately reproduced fighting compartment exterior. The kit also includes a commander figure and authentic markings, making it an excellent project for both beginner and experienced armor modelers.

Whether displayed on its own or as part of an early-war diorama, the Panzer I is an important addition to any World War II armor collection.

Historical Background

The Panzerkampfwagen I (Sd.Kfz. 101) entered service in the early 1930s as Germany's first mass-produced tank following the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles. Originally intended as a training vehicle, the Panzer I became the foundation upon which Germany developed its armored forces and Blitzkrieg tactics. Despite its light armor and machine gun armament, it saw combat during the Spanish Civil War, the Invasion of Poland, the Battle of France, and the North African Campaign before being replaced by more heavily armed tanks. Although obsolete by the middle of the war, the Panzer I played a significant role in the early successes of the German Army.
