Historical Background
The Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet entered U.S. Navy service in 2001 as the two-seat variant of the F/A-18E. Developed as a larger and more capable successor to the original Hornet, the Super Hornet features increased fuel capacity, improved avionics, enhanced survivability, and expanded weapons capability. It has served extensively in combat operations over Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and other theaters, performing missions ranging from fleet air defense and precision strike to aerial refueling and close air support. The F/A-18F also served as the foundation for the EA-18G Growler, the U.S. Navy's dedicated electronic warfare aircraft.
