Historical Background

Introduced in 1943, the Junkers Ju 87G-2 Kanonenvogel transformed the famous Stuka dive bomber into a specialized anti-tank aircraft. Based on the Ju 87D-5 airframe, the G-2 featured longer wings and carried two 37mm BK 3.7 cannons, each capable of penetrating the thin top armor of Soviet tanks. Although no longer used as a dive bomber, the Kanonenvogel proved devastating in low-level attack missions against armored formations.
