Build one of the most feared tank hunters of World War II with the Italeri 1/72 Junkers Ju 87G-2 Kanonenvogel Plastic Model Kit. The Ju 87G-2 "Kanonenvogel" (Cannon Bird) was the final combat variant of the legendary Stuka, purpose-built to destroy heavily armored Soviet tanks on the Eastern Front. Armed with a pair of powerful 37mm BK 3.7 cannons mounted beneath its wings, the Ju 87G-2 became synonymous with close air support and anti-tank warfare, particularly through the exploits of famed Luftwaffe pilot Hans-Ulrich Rudel.

Italeri's 1/72 scale kit accurately reproduces this iconic aircraft with finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, realistic landing gear, and the distinctive underwing cannon pods that made the Kanonenvogel famous. The kit includes four authentic Luftwaffe marking options and a full-color instruction guide, making it an excellent project for World War II aviation enthusiasts and scale modelers alike.

Whether displayed in Eastern Front camouflage or as part of a Luftwaffe aircraft collection, the Ju 87G-2 Kanonenvogel is a unique and historically significant addition to any display.

Historical Background

Introduced in 1943, the Junkers Ju 87G-2 Kanonenvogel transformed the famous Stuka dive bomber into a specialized anti-tank aircraft. Based on the Ju 87D-5 airframe, the G-2 featured longer wings and carried two 37mm BK 3.7 cannons, each capable of penetrating the thin top armor of Soviet tanks. Although no longer used as a dive bomber, the Kanonenvogel proved devastating in low-level attack missions against armored formations. The aircraft became closely associated with Hans-Ulrich Rudel, the Luftwaffe's highest-decorated pilot, who claimed hundreds of tanks destroyed while flying the Ju 87G. Despite the Stuka's vulnerability to enemy fighters, the G-2 remained an effective ground-attack aircraft during the final years of the war.
