Vallejo Chipping Medium Water Based – 35ml

Vallejo Chipping Medium 76.550 is a water-based modeling medium designed to create realistic chipped, flaked, scratched, and worn paint effects on scale models and dioramas. It is particularly useful for simulating areas where paint has worn away to reveal an underlying rust, primer, or base color.

Apply the medium with an airbrush or brush over the underlying paint layer. After the medium dries, apply the final acrylic color. Once the top coat is dry, selectively remove or scratch the paint using water, a stiff brush, toothpick, or similar tool to create realistic chips and worn areas. Vallejo recommends protecting the completed effect with a final varnish.

The 35ml bottle is Vallejo reference 76.550, providing twice the volume of the smaller 73.214 Chipping Medium format.

How to Use

1. Apply your base color and allow it to dry completely.
2. Apply Vallejo Chipping Medium 76.550 with a brush or airbrush.
3. Allow the medium to dry, approximately 30 minutes.
4. Apply the final acrylic paint color over the medium.
5. Once the top coat is dry, lightly moisten the area with water.
6. Use a stiff brush, toothpick, or similar tool to remove small areas of paint and create chips and scratches.
7. Protect the finished effect with a clear varnish.
